Welcome!

And YES - this might be the simplest webpage you've seen in 15 years, because our message is simple - we're building a new model for a high caliber, excellent music program, one that will present a men's chorus that performs to the highest possible standards.

This is the Internet recruiting home of the Heart of Carolina Chorus, a men's a cappella ensemble dedicated to preserving the 20th century forms of American harmonies while exploring new approaches and expanding our musical horizons.

And NOW - we're ready to begin with auditions of prospective performers, the first crucial step towards building the new chorus. It's critical to recruit men who share the skills necessary to learn, retain and perform the music we've programmed. Our new repertoire has been designed to challenge our members and touch our audiences with music that will entertain and enthrall them! It just makes sense that the members have the required abilities. Are you ready for a challenge?

How Do I Audition? PDF Print E-mail

If you'd like to schedule an audition to sing with us, we ask that you first download and complete our prospective Membership Interest Form, where you can tell us a little about yourself, your singing experience, and how best to contact you.

After we review your Membership Interest Form, our director, Mr. Chris Slacke, will contact you personally to schedule your 15-minute audition during one of the following available dates:

Audition Dates:

  • Dec. 11 & 18
  • Jan. 8, 15, 22 & 29
  • Feb. 5, 12, 19 & 26

Audition Times: Your audition time will be scheduled on one of these dates between 7:00PM and 9:30PM each night. Important - you must schedule your audition slot ahead of time!

Location: Auditions will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Johnson Fellowship Hall, 1737 Hillandale Rd., Durham, NC 27705. The church is located just south of I-85 exit 174.

Audition Form: To get an idea of what we'll be looking for during your audition, take a look at our Audition Form, which you are encouraged to download and review ahead of time.

Rehearsals: We will begin rehearsals at St. Luke's Episcopal Church after at least 25 men have passed the audition. We estimate that the audition process will take 8-12 weeks to complete, putting our projected rehearsal start date in March, 2009.
